Be miserable. Or motivate yourself. Whatever has to be done, it's always your choice. - Wayne Dyer
When we make the decision to have our gastrointestinal system altered in a drastic bariatric procedure surely we must know that there are permanent lifestyle changes that must go with it.
IF choosing the wrong foods got us to the point of needing the electric wheelchair at the grocery store, using a cane, uncontrollable diabetes, lung and heart disease, sleeping with a mask hooked up to a CPAP machine, Lane Bryant 3X and 28 being too tight, having folks make fun of us at our children's school functions, not being able to clean properly after going to the bathroom - then how can post op food changes NOT have to be drastic and permanent.
When someone who has lost substantial weight but who is struggling, chooses a bowl of Kentucky Fried Chicken, wet down with gravy and mashed potatoes for their meal it is obvious that they don't get it. These are the folks who whine that this is hard yet they sabotage themselves at every meal. The Restriction of Bariatric Surgery alone is NOT enough. Sure it helps to have only a small stomach to fill, but the foods we choose to fill it with are key.
Choose Life. Death is easy, its LIFE that is hard. In order to make this work we need to CHOOSE change... and if we need HELP in doing so, we should choose to talk to a therapist to assist us in sorting it all out.
Many people are MISERABLE after their bariatric procedure as they focus on what they CANNOT have, rather than looking at all the GOOD that still exists in post op life.
Choose to make your food choices from the abundance of fresh and flavorful foods that exist on this earth. What tastes better than a broiled herb-sprinkled chicken cutlet, some salsa to moisten, a dish of zucchini sauteed in some olive oil with a sprinkle of Parmesan cheese? This is a wonderful meal you can share with your entire family. Nothing is better than that. Choosing LIFE to SHARE with family - no fast food in the world is worth that tradeoff.
Vegetables didn't cause us to have one foot in the grave - processed and fast foods did. Some of us have the carb thing all wrong. Sure, have a little grilled steak, AND THEN fill up on a gorgeous tomato salad, or even all the sweet potatoes you can fit. THINK about your choices and STOP buying the premade garbage foods and trying to convince yourself that you are too busy to cook.
Cutting up a tomato while chicken broil takes NO TIME AT ALL. Mashing a few fresh raspberries with a fork and blending them into some plain Danon Yogurt takes NO TIME AT ALL.
You can be miserable... or you can motivate yourself on this fine Saturday morning. Plan a trip to the grocery store and pick up a package of thinly sliced chicken cutlets, a container of fresh salsa from the produce section, and a couple of zucchini. Give it a go - this is our new life and we may as well love it! BE proud that you are preparing BEautiful food for you and your family.
